Mind-Blowing Apps to Enhance the 6 Traits of Writing
Do you want to use your iPad or Ipod Touch to engage students in your classroom?

During this interactive class, you will learn about some astonishing apps for iPads and other iOS products to increase engagement and motivate students while teaching the 6 Traits of writing. Each participant will be given a list of apps to enhance teaching the 6 Traits through projects and activities, and will be shown how to use many of them with confidence. The apps will provide a variety of activities to engage and motivate every learner and create success in the writing process. Using these apps for writing is a new approach that will provide interest for the students rather than packets and textbooks.

Here is a preview of some of the kinds of apps you will see and use during this presentation:
Total Recall, Teleprompt+ for iPad, Utah Write, English Gr5 Lite, SimpleMind+, PuppetPals HD, and InAWorld Drama.

Whether you are new to the whole technology scene or just want to pick up a few new tricks, this presentation is for you! Hope to see you there.

Garageband as a Language Arts Tool

Few deny the power of music in both learning and inspiration. How many of us learned the alphabet with the power of a song? This class is meant to instruct teachers how Apple's Garageband software may open up new avenues for learning. Even teachers who can't carry a tune in a bucket may benefit from these musical tools. Come see how poetry and songwriting can complement your teaching and inspire a few reluctant learners.

Using Technology to Teach/Revise/Edit Writing
Teach writing using technology. You have the tools you need to free yourself from squinting to edit chicken scratch on newsprint. If your students have access to a computer lab or better, you can have students type all drafts and save them on the computer. As teachers, we have access to these files in order to communicate with students ideas for revisions, then editing, before publishing. A color-coded guide explaining your suggestions, plus an electronic sign-up sheet, will free you from confusion over who next needs your critical eye. Use the technology you already have.
