Apple TV In The Classroom – The New Smart Board

Lately I have using the Apple TV and the iPad as an alternative to one of the many types of interactive whiteboards currently available to instructors. This combination is amazingly magical. Kindles in the Secondary Library Media Center
The Kindle e-book reader is a device that can be utilized effectively in the secondary library media center. This workshop will include hands-on experience with Kindles as well as information about how the device operates. Library cataloging of the Kindle, management information (permission and other forms) , utilizing free e-books from the public domain, and library promotion of the Kindle will also be addressed.

Technolgy in Lesson Plans and Data Collection

Setting up a data collection system to chart student progress that is easy. This presentation will review the stages of learning as it directly relates to intervals for data collection and methods to document the learning itself through pictures, sound and video. In addition I can show how to incorporate technology for lesson plan components to make the content relevant to to classroom and students with very little effort using apps such as KSL weather. I also have started using a Go Pro camera system for science and communication to teach perspective.
I will let the attendees have a chance to practice a little with each device and if time is available to create a simple lesson that would use the device to either provide information or data collection

Backing Up and Managing Your Digital Files
Ask yourself this question: “If my computer went up in a ball of smoke right now, in how many ways would that affect my life?” This session will take an informative look on how we can use free programs to help manage our digital files, as well as discuss strategies to ensure everything we care about is backed up safely. For the purpose of this presentation, we will focus primarily on providing a “how to” guide in using Microsoft SyncToy and Task Scheduler to maintain and backup your files using additional computers, hard drives or other types of media.

Personal Computers: maintaining and troubleshooting your home computer
This session will take a comprehensive look at your home computer. We will talk about safe computing strategies such as using anti-virus and malware scans, suggestions on things you can do if your computer is slowing down, as well as basic upkeep that you can do at home. As time permits, we will talk about troubleshooting tips (identifying common hardware failures) and a discussion on data protection for that inevitable scenario when something goes wrong. All programs we will introduce may be found FREE on the Internet!
