How can these programs benefit schools and students? What are possibilities and what the pitfalls?
I will share my real life classroom experience using social media. I have had an excellent experience using social media in my classroom and would love to share with others. I've researched social media as a graduate school project in the IDET program at the University of Utah and would like to share issues, challenges and successes with other teachers to encourage them to be as social networking friendly as possible. I'd like to share the benefits of edmodo, twitter for students (and teachers), titan pad and a few other classroom friendly websites. I would love to be able to help teachers set up with accounts and mobile devices to begin using social networking to enhance their classroom and grow their Professional Learning Network.

This session will explore ways to "Catch Students Before they Fall" including skills remediation in reading and math as well as 6-week remediation programs and full course remediation solutions in all core subject areas. This session will show how schools can provide an environment for middle school students where failure is not an option, so that all students can stay on the path toward a successful high school graduation.
Boardmaker software from Mayer Johnson has been around for years and has been used faithfully by special educators. A year ago, Mayer Johnson introduced Boardmaker Studio, a new version of the software that allows teachers to quickly print out activities on paper or design interactive activities that can be used on a computer or with an interactive white board. This session will teach you how to create activities using fast and easy templates, design activities from scratch, create pictures for augmentative communication, and access thousands of free activities designed by educators from around the country through Mayer Johnson's Boardmaker Share. In this session participants will explore using both physical and virtual Student Response System options to meet the challenges of implementing data driven instruction. Participants will gain familiarity with various tools within the TurningPoint software to help streamline collecting and analyzing student achievement data. We will also discuss various learning theories and teaching strategies that can be used to support student engagement and achievement.
With an influx of mobile devices flooding the market and educational institutions it is imperative that students and educators alike learn how to properly utilize these devices within the classroom and out. This presentation will discuss how to capitalize on the features that these mobile devices offer to be used for beneficial and interactive education, with some extra focus spent on securing and managing district owned devices.
Setting up a data collection system to chart student progress that is easy. This presentation will review the stages of learning as it directly relates to intervals for data collection and methods to document the learning itself through pictures, sound and video. In addition I can show how to incorporate technology for lesson plan components to make the content relevant to to classroom and students with very little effort using apps such as KSL weather. I also have started using a Go Pro camera system for science and communication to teach perspective.

The purpose of this session is to inspire participants to use the new Common Core standards as inspiration for exciting and high-level technology projects. While the standards are able to provide a clear understanding of what students need to learn, they do not tell you HOW the students should learn these standards. While each student is different, the desire to be engaged and to use creative outlets are common amongst them all. To raise drop-out rates, Washington District has implemented a successful online credit recovery program utilizing two models: independent study and a more closely-monitored study hall approach. This program has achieved significant results as 80% of students have successfully completed their credit recovery courses and qualified for graduation. In addition, the Washington District has also launched a summer school program that offers original and credit recovery over two summer sessions.

One of the best things about NASA is that YOU own the data. As a federal agency, all NASA sponsored scientific data is made publicly available on the Internet. The trick is knowing where to find it and how to use it. In this session, we will look at some of the NASA online data nodes, the types and formats of data available, where to find free software that can read the data, and how to use this data to meet national science, math, and technology standards in your classroom. You'll also learn about NASA programs that allow you and your students to become actual scientists to collect and analyze your own data.
