NASA education specialist, working with an on-site specialist, will SKYPE into this session to present a fun engaging activity. Your students are presented with an engineering design challenge.... Deliver a given cargo safely to the surface of another planet - Mars! NASA and PBS's Design Squad program have collaborated on a new educator guide which presents 6 engineering challenges. This activity introduces students to the engineering design process, from brainstorming to summary report. Given a particular set of materials, student teams design, build and test prototypes. Cell phones and digital imagery are used to document the tests and analyze results. Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics... this lesson has it all.
